Price Chopper has been a long-time supporter of Harvesters – The Community Food Network. In June 2009, we decided to formalize our commitment to Kansas City’s hungry though our Chop Hunger program. That first year, we pledged to provide 1 million meals for Harvesters between June 2009 and June 2010. Thanks to our customer’s participation, that first year we were able to provide 1.3 million meals. The next year, we surpassed our pledge of 1.5 million meals, and have pledged to provide 1.8 million meals by June 2012. All collected foods are distributed by Harvesters through its network of 620 non-profit agencies in the metro, providing food assistance to as many as 66,000 different people each week. Learn more about CHOP Hunger here.
Price Chopper partners with the Mid-America Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and is a proud sponsor of their annual Light the Night Walk.
How about a little 5K run? Maybe a jog? Perhaps a leisurely walk? Any way you choose to finish the 3.1-mile distance is just fine with the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure® , a cancer-fighting event sponsored each year by your metro Kansas City Price Choppers. We throw our running shoes and corporate support behind the Komen Foundation’s annual race, which raises money to fight breast cancer through screenings, treatment programs and education. Locally, the Komen Foundation has provided $5.3 million to breast-cancer programs, and more than $1.6 million towards national research for a cure.
“Jerry’s Kids” are special at Price Chopper—all year long. We hold special fundraising sales events, such as “Aisles of Smiles” and “Shamrock Sales,” that go directly to supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Through these events, held at all 49 locally-owned stores during the year, we’re able to pour local donations into the total check that Price Chopper presents each year at the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.
If disaster strikes, your metro area Price Choppers are ready to strike back with immediate help. The disaster-response plan at each of our 49 locally-owned stores lets shoppers donate $1, $5 and $10 directly to The Red Cross. It’s our way of helping these emergency workers bring the warm meals, dry clothes, safe shelters and on-site assistance to the afflicted. Our community matters to us—as it does to you. Thanks especially to our generous Price Chopper customers, who help us support this emergency help when it’s most needed. After the devastating Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti, the generosity of our customers resulted in a $94,182 contribution…the biggest donation collected in Kansas City!
Our most important natural resource? Hint: It’s not the ozone layer. It’s those little particles of life—maybe there’s one sitting next to you—that hold the future and will build whatever is to come. It’s our kids. That’s why your 49 metro area Price Choppers support Operation Breakthrough, a non-profit local agency devoted to helping the most needy children—those in poverty. The agency impacts more than 450 area children each weekday through a range of educational, health and family programs. So, when we think of protecting the ozone layer, we believe it’ll be one of our children who finds the answer. It might even be an Operation Breakthrough child. We think that would be a pretty great trade off.
Price Chopper has partnered with Family & Morale, Welfare & Recreation (FMWR), and organization that helps military families settle into the community. Price Chopper is a proud sponsor of the Women’s Intersport Network for Kansas City (WIN for KC), an organization which empowers girls and women through advocating and promoting the lifetime value of sports and fitness. We partner with Win for KC each year on the Women’s Triathlon and the Women’s Pro Tennis Classic.
