Independence Sun Fresh closing, reopening as Price Chopper

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. – This Sunday, the Sun Fresh Market in Independence, Mo. at 2301 Sterling Rd will close for business at noon. The grocery store will reopen as a Price Chopper around late May after renovations to the building are complete.

The transition to the Price Chopper brand comes after the Sun Fresh Market was bought by the McKeever Family, who own nine other Price Choppers in the Greater Kansas City Metro. The McKeevers plan to continue serving the Independence community along with their other two Independence Price Choppers.

“Our family has a long history of serving the residents of Independence,” said Alan McKeever, Price Chopper. “We look forward to strengthening our commitment to the Independence community with the new store.”

Renovations will be significant and impact all areas of the store, including the meat, produce, bakery and deli departments. The timeline for the remodel and reopening is estimated to take around eight weeks. Updates will be sent out closer to the time of the grand opening.
