A Best picture-inspired awards' menu

February 28th 2018

It’s time once again to honor the best films of 2017. The 90th Academy Awards ceremony happens this Sunday and of course for the most positive viewing environment - there should be food involved. While we'd love to say any old party snacks will do...we love a good theme so why not try and see if your guests can figure out which snack matches up with each best picture nominee.

Our 2018 Academy Award Menu:

The Shape of Water. There are lots of secrets in this movie, so maybe a little mermaid water rum punch to get to the bottom of it all? Try this recipe from Wishes and Dishes to make it for your guests.

The Darkest Hour is a thrilling and inspiring true story of Winston Churchill. We know he was a fan of clear soups and cigars...so take your pick on what your guests might prefer, but here is our suggestion.

Dunkirk is a dramatic war film with little dialogue. Instead of words, the music and the cinematography tell this story from land, sea and air. We think you'll need something hearty to get through this one. Try these festive little smokies for an appetizer- they look like little airplanes!

Phantom Thread. Set in 1950's London, this romantic period drama film has a lot of food drama too. The New Yorker Magazine calls it the "best food move in ages." We think scones like in the opening scene would make a nice touch. Try this recipe for Simple Sweet Scones

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. This movie really is about three billboards that a mother buys to call attention to her daughters unsolved murder. Time to flex those cake skills. Bake a sheet cake in your favorite flavor and decorate simply like one of the three billboards. Finding reasons to eat cake. It's something we do best.

Get Out is an American horror film and while we don't want to give the plot away with all the gory details... Just note that those are brain shaped Rice Krispie treats. Now you know.

The Post is a historical drama based on the first female publisher of a major American newspaper. We all know you can't watch a movie without popcorn, so keep this one simple and serve fresh popped corn in newspaper bags. Find out how to make them here.

Call Me By My Name. This coming of age love story is set in Italy. We are only scratching the surface here, but we vote antipasto skewers

Lady Bird. We made it to the end of our themed menu and well, truth be told, this one is a stretch. The only thing in common here is the name. What can we say, we gave it our best. Time to get to the food! Try Lady Bird Johnson's Lemon Bundt Cake.

We all have that friend. You know, the one that doesn’t really care about football, but is a very serious and dedicated patron of football food. This Sunday brings us the “Big Game,” the biggest sports day in the American calendar—and for many of us, the second-biggest holiday of overeating. Here are 10 ways to know you are just here for the food.
