  1. Preheat oven to 375°. Line 1 rimmed baking pan with parchment paper; line separate rimmed baking pan with aluminum foil and wire rack. In medium bowl, toss bacon, sugar, crushed red pepper and black pepper to coat; place in single layer on rack and bake 12 minutes or until cooked halfway. Cool bacon 10 minutes. Makes 16 pieces bacon.
  2. Gently unroll 1 puff pastry sheet onto cutting board; cut sheet lengthwise in half and then each half crosswise into 4 (2 1/2-inch x 5 inch) rectangles. Repeat with remaining sheet. Spread pastry rectangles with cream cheese; top each with 2 slices apple and 1 piece bacon. Starting with short end of pastry rectangles, roll up pastry around bacon and apples; place, seam side down, on parchment-lined pan. Brush roll-ups with butter; bake 15 minutes or until puff pastry is golden brown and bacon is crisp. Makes 16 candied bacon in a blanket.
  3. Serve candied bacon in a blanket with syrup, if desired.
