Stained Glass Stars

Check out this jiggly recipe that’s sure to add some patriotic flair to your dessert table at upcoming summer gatherings. Get the kiddos involved in the preparation! All you’ll need is gelatin, sweetened condensed milk and some patience.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (6-ounce) box or 2 (3-ounce) boxes cherry gelatin dessert
  • 1 (6-ounce) box or 2 (3-ounce) boxes berry blue gelatin dessert
  • 2 (1/4-ounce) envelopes unflavored gelatin
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

          Directions:

          1. Prepare cherry and berry blue gelatin desserts as labels direct in 2 (8-inch) square baking dishes. Refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
          2. Cut each flavor of gelatin into 1- to 1½-inch cubes. Carefully combine gelatin cubes in 13 x 9-inch baking dish; refrigerate.
          3. In medium bowl, add ½ cup cold water; sprinkle unflavored gelatin dessert over water and let stand 2 minutes. Stir in 1½ cups boiling water until gelatin dissolves; stir in condensed milk and let cool 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour unflavored gelatin mixture over flavored gelatin cubes; refrigerate at least 3 hours or overnight.
          4. Cut gelatin with star cutter.
